Surfing at Pipes Beach, Breakfast at Beach City Cafe

We will meet in the parking lot on the north end of San Elijo State Beach. To get there from the I-5 take the Birmingham Dr. exit and go towards the beach. Drive until this street comes to a T at San Elijo Ave. Make a left. Turn right at Chesterfield Dr. Turn right on Hwy. 101 and look for an entrance to a parking lot on the left. Don't turn into the main campground lot where the camp store is. It will be the turn the farthest north in the campground parking. This is a passholder lot so once you find the group you will have to park on the street or you can pay $8 for day parking.

We will be in the water by 8:30 depending on the number of people that show up from my other meetup groups and how much training I need to give out of the water. So if you get lost or are going to be late be sure to call me on my cell phone. I can't take it in the water so call me before 8:15 if you need to. [masked]. Try to be on time if you need a lesson please. I'd like to start everyone together so I don't have to repeat anything and everyone can get in the water at the same time. After surfing we'll get some breakfast at Beach City Cafe on San Elijo Ave. across the street.

Equipment and Rentals: If you don't have a board, Costco has $99 soft boards. The water is just about warm enough so you probably won't need a wetsuit.

There are two great surf shops in Oceanside that have rentals. With either one you would have to call ahead of time to reserve equipment and pick it up the day before. Rentals are usually 24 hours. The two shops I recommend are:

I don't know which shops have rentals in Encinitas but you could try Hansen's and The Longboard Grotto.
