Catch the Great Ocean Road from Torquay and turn left at Bells Road about 5mins after passing Jan Juc. At the end of the road turn left. Drive around the corner, passing the 1st car park. Enter via the 2nd car park. Meet at lower car park!

Hey guys... the Melbourne Hiking Group is organising a hike from the Bells Beach car park for the day. I thought, why not incorporate a surf just before or even after the hike!? If we arrive back by early afternoon, it may even be worth going to TSA to hire boards/wetsuits and go for an after hike surf at Torquay!? What an incredible way to refresh after a long hike with a swim or a surf later in the day - or get your blood coarsing and pumped ready for the hike with a surf before the pre-dawn raid!

Bells Beach is not suitable for beginner riders, as swells there are over a reef break and depending on the size of the waves (avg 3-5 foot), it could be hard to paddle out to the line up. However, if anyone is keen, I thought why not!? It could be great or the swell could be flat which means anyone could do it! Otherwise we could have a nice pre-hike swim, and maybe surf after the hike?

I can car pool people from the McDonalds car park, our usual spot in South Melbourne (see previous meetups). I will leave at precisely 5.45am on the dot - come rain or shine! But I need to know who would need this and to be COMMITTED to meet me there, as it is out of my way. I have only room for 3 in my sedan, with roof racks and straps for our boards.

Well it looks like I am the only going for a surf at Bells at this stage. My apologies for the early call, but surfing around these parts is better early in the water before the crowds take over. believe me! Anyway.. maybe I'll see you at the hike instead. cheers

Who attended?

    •  Bells beach was pumping 3-5 foot on the bigger sets. There was around 10 guys out and mainly on long boards and the odd short board. Overall the waves were a perfect refresher after the hike.
